First Meet Tomorrow (And other Important Info)

Screamin' Scott Showdown

OK, Team - Here we go for another year of Hughson Cross Country.  This is a list of our entries and the times you are running tomorrow/. You may not be able to open this link, but I wanted to put it up here because we still don't have our bulletin board and Atwater HS has chosen not to publish the entries to athletic.net.

If you cannot open the link, please check the meet page on athletic.net in order to view the schedule.  None of us will be running the 3 mile course tomorrow.  It's early in the season and we don't need to use up those bullets yet.  For the most part, experienced runners will run the 2.2 mile short course race and brand new runners will run the 1.4 mile novice race.  There will be some exceptions to this rule and if you have specific questions please ask me.

Some of you are on the competition list, but may not be running for various reasons.  If you were not able to make 20 minutes without stopping or have been dealing with illness or injury, I will scratch you from this list.  I had to submit entries at the beginning of the week and I realize that things change between Monday and Saturday.  If you have questions, please ask me.

Stanco Distance Fundraiser

This meet is being put on as an unofficial fundraiser for Scott Durham, who runs the Stanco Distance website / Facebook page / Instagram Page.  Scott is a fixture at local meets, taking pictures of the kids and doing more to promote our sport than the Modesto Bee, Turlock Journal, Ceres Courier, Denair Dispatch, and Hughson Chronicle have ever done COMBINED.....  Scott gives t-shirts to kids who achieve certain times.  He determines our "All County and All Region" teams and has special awards for athletes who make those teams.  He even gives $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors that represent the best of what our are has to offer.  He's done this for years and he's mostly done it out of his own pocket.

SO......

For the past few years, we've been having this meet.  Each team has taken up a collection to give to Scott at the meet.  2 years ago, we were able to present Scott with an envelope with over $900.00.  Those dollars were given right back to the deserving runners from our area as part of his scholarship fund.

SO.....

If you'd like to donate to Mr. Durham's efforts, please send your son or daughter to school today with a check made out to Scott Durham.  I will personally be making a sizable donation.  If you get this message too late for today, you can always send your donation on Saturday morning.  Cash works too.  Maybe we can collect over $1,000 this year!

Using Athletic.net

All schools in our area (and almost all in the entire nation) utilize a web service called athletic.net.  Each team has a splash page, with the team's roster, schedule, staff, and other information.  Also, every race an athlete runs will have its results uploaded to athletic.net and athletes can track their progress across their 4 years of high school.  Some of us who have run in middle school can see 7 years of progress and some of us, who go on and run in college, will continue to have their progress updated to athletic.net.  It really is  a super cool resource.

For new parents and athletes, I encourage you to search around on our page.  As the season progresses, you'll be able to see how we stack up against other teams in our area, section, and the entire state by clicking on the "Rankings" tab
