Some Important Facts

Fact #1

Week 4 totals are now due.  Please get them to me as soon as possible.

Fact #2

Summer practice starts tuesday, June 28th.  We will workout Tuesdays and Thursdays.  For this week and this week only we will practice at 8:00 AM.  After the 4th of July, we will practice at 7:00 PM.

Fact #3

The Atwater Run for Independence is coming up on July 4th.  I will have a van leaving at 5:45 AM for all who wish to run.  It is highly encouraged that you show up to race.  If you are a beginner or haven't been running very much, you should enter the 2 mile race.  If you are experienced, you should run the 5 mile race.  This race will give us a good idea of what kind of shape you are in, and what kind of training we should be doing with you for the rest of the summer.

Bear Valley Brawlers # 2 is Tomorrow!!!

We will be meeting in the back parking lot of the school at 8:00 AM.  We will depart soon thereafter.  It is going to be very hot tomorrow, so don't be late.  Every minute we wait in the parking lot is another minute for the temperature to rise.

Bring towels and something to eat.  We will be stopping off to have a picnic and get wet in the Merced River after the run.

Week 2 mileage is updated

OK, team.  We've got 406.1 miles in the books after 2 weeks.  So far, Ian is in the lead with 67 miles followed closely by Caleb with 64.8

So far, I have mileage from 12 of you.  I know that more of you are running, so send me your totals. Let's try to get the team total up to 6,000 miles by the end of the summer period.

Time to get those week 1 totals to me

All right, boys and girls. Week one is in the books. I know that a bunch of you have been running. I saw Big Mac with my own eyes. Great job getting out on the roads. Please e-mail me your totals for the week so that I can log them in. Also, here is a video from the state track meet for inspiration.

Boys 3200 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1YYM2JHdUc&feature=channel_video_title

Halsted made one of the gutsiest moves I've ever seen at this level of racing. It is almost identical to the move that Ernesto Madrigal made to win our league meet in 2002, it is just much harder to pull off at the highest levels. He ended up 3rd, but probably wouldn't have been better than 6th or 7th if he hadn't done what he did. Watch and enjoy.

I wanted to post the Girls 800 here also, but can't find the video. National record by Amy Weissenbach of 2:02.4. The girl went out in 57 and hung on! Amazing. I wish I could find the vid.

So far, Ian Brooks is the only one who has sent me his totals.  He got 32 miles for the first week.....not too bad for week one of the summer.  He can definatley build on that.

2011 Summer Training Is Now Underway

Monday was the start of our official summer base "500 Mile Club" period. I've had a couple of people ask me if we have started practice yet, because they've seen cross country runners out running.....I told them we haven't started official practice yet and that my athletes are simply motivated and determined to have a good season......Imagine the thought.....runners out running without having an official pracitce :) That shows self motivation and determination, two qualities you will need to succeed in this sport and in life. Good start to the summer, Huskies
