Week 7 Mileage Totals Posted

Week 7 Totals are posted.  The usual suspects are doing well at the front and that is good.  Some of our freshmen are really starting to step it up now too, and that is excellent. I'm very pleased to see: Jackson, Kasey, Maddy, Jared and Mike all increase their running mileage.  This is the best path to excellence in running.

Also, I've now completed both the TOP 10 LIST and the STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS STATS.  Please check out these links to see where we stand up historically against the state (hint:  It isn't that great, but we can be much better).

Tempo Thursday

4 mile group
Pablo - 26:19
Leo - 26:23
Mason - 29:04
Adam - 29:04
Caleb - 29:04
Ian - 29:12
Becky - 29:22

First tempo workout of the summer for Mason and Pablo.  Becky is just starting to ramp her mileage back up after an extended break from track season.  A 4 mile tempo, mixed with the first week back to substantial mileage mixed with all of the myriad fair preparations makes for a rough workout.  Adam was also a bit tired from prepping for fair.

Pablo and Leo are right about where they need to be for the middle of July.  What we need now is for 5-6 guys to join them.  Who will step up?

2 Mile Group
Jackson - 16:32
Juliette - 17:00
Tasha - 17:04
Kasey - 17:12
Mike - 17:16
Maddy - 17:42
Jared - 17:42
Jessica - 23:34

This was the first tempo run for everyone in the group except for Tasha, who has been sick lately.  The focus was on running comfortably and finishing the run feeling like you could continue at that pace.  Most runners felt like they could have run much faster.  This is good, because they will!

Two New Sections Added

I've added 2 more pages for your information.

The All Time Top 10 Page has the top 10 Hughson runners for the 3 courses that we run the most often: Pre Season 2 mile, Legion Park, and Woodward Park.

The State Championships Stats page has the stats for the top 5 runners from the 1st, 3rd, and 10th place teams at the state meet dating back to 2004. Neither page is complete yet, but I will have them finished soon.

Feel free to check out what is up there so far.

Week 6 totals.

Here are the week 6 mileage totals. I am impressed with Pablo's determination and with Leo and Caleb's continued steady running. It is good to see new faces getting into the mix. Jackson is ramping up really well for an incoming freshman and Kasey is making good progress as well. I like the attitude that I see developing. Let's keep going!!!

HA.  It looks like this post auto updates every time I update the totals page.  Those would be IMPRESSIVE 6 week totals. Unfortunately, they are 11 week totals.  Updated 8/18

Week 5 Mileage totals are up. Week 6 are due!

Leo is leading the pack still and Caleb is still running a strong second.  Some of our other runners are starting to pick up their mileage totals as well.  Check the mileage page for full standings.

Atwater Run for Independence, 2011

Sorry this has taken so long to get loaded. I took my son camping on the 5th and got back kind of late yesterday.

5 Huskies made the trip to Atwater for the 5 mile July 4th race. Due to some injury issues, only 3 actually ran.
Leo Vasquez 33:06 (over 5 minutes better than last year)
Pablo Madrigal 34:35
Caleb Sawyer 36:00 (over 11 minutes better than last year!)

Last year's top runner was Lucas Fisher, who finished in 33:47. Leo was 41 seconds faster than Lucas's time. This bodes well for Leo in the upcoming season.

Runnin' Reuben's Hughson Preview

Were #2

2) Hughson - Team has potential for a state meet run and the counties #1 ranking. Last track season Brooks clocked a 4:46 mile as a freshman. Madrigal made the county leader board with a time of 10:51 for 3200 meters. Crowder qualified for the state meet as a freshman in cross country and also clocked a 10:31 3200 meters. His sophomore season was injury riddled but if healthy and training he can run with anyone in the county. The team will need Deal a 5:13 1600 meter runner and Vasquez a 11:30 3200 meter runner to be at their best if the team wants to take over the #1 spot. Huge omission on my part. Lundell who ran 17:34 at Legion Park last season will challenge for county first team honors and gives the Huskies another front runner.

Don't get cocky!!!
While Stanislaus County is doing much better with its distance runners than the previous few years, we are no where near what I would consider a hotbed of high school distance running.  Teams in say....Orange County would be laughing right now if they read that a team that may only have one or 2 guys under 17 was ranked second in the county.

We are doing OK, but we can do much better......

The main key to moving our program forward is to continue to increas our training milage this summer.  Leo is rocking, Caleb is steady.  Now that Pablo is back from Mexico, we'll have another guy hitting pretty big numbers.  As for the rest of you, you need to step up.
